Worship in the Vedic tradition includes recitation of mantras learned through an oral tradition and precise rituals performed by Brahmin Priests. Yagna, an ancient fire ceremony, is one such ritual. The photographic images in the series entitled Vedic Worship are my interpretation of the mysterious and profound experience inherent in the performance of a Yagna. As a photographer, I seek to convey the subtle, mystical qualities of the ritual through my images. In this ceremony, it is through the smoke that the Brahmin's offerings are said to be lifted to the heavens and in these photographs, it is through the smoke that the experience of the transcendent is offered to the viewer.
